Review: "Genderflex: Sexy Stories on the Edge and In-Between" edited by Cecilia Tan

****************************

Who says speculative fiction just has to consider possible future technologies and societies? The stories in "Genderflex" speculate about worlds that break the dichotomous two-gender system in use today.

It's a delightful romp through the garden of sexualities and gender identities that we can only imagine enjoying. This is tasteful erotica, serving as a much-needed counterbalance to the flood of banal, crass, and totally unimaginative porn that seems to appear out of nowhere. I think it is no accident that most of these stories are written by women (or people who purport to be women! After reading the book, you realize that... who knows?). Frankly, women seem to have much more active sexual imaginations and much more powerful, graceful descriptions of sex than men.

I recommend "Genderflex" for those brave enough to look at the sci fi possibilities within each human body and psyche. This book rates a "+".

Disclaimer: A friend of mine wrote one of the stories in this collection. And it's a damn good one.
